NO medical background nursing student, need insight on nursing specialties

Published

Hi Everyone!

i will be graduating with a BSN in a couple months and want to start applying for new grad programs. I feel like I can learn fast and adapt to any specialty. I am not picky because during all my clinical rotations I always end up saying, I CAN see myself being that type of nurse. It's so hard to choose. I know the hardest part is landing a job, but I also want to work towards a specialty. Basically I want to ask every nurse in here what they do, ups, downs, and any personal opinions.

I'm in the same boat. However, I have no desire for anything to do with children and laboring moms. So I'm looking for positions mostly on a Med-Surg type unit, since you get to see a variety of conditions, and it's a great place to attain a vast amount of nursing skills.

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Take a look at the allnurses Specialties Forums. You can post questions there about specialties that interest you. The best sources of information are the nurses who work in those specialties.
