No jobs in Fort Wayne for new nurse. Options?

Published

I just graduated from Ivy Tech Fort Wayne at end of July. I will be taking my NCLEX in 2-3 weeks. I have been scouting job market in Fort Wayne for new nurses.

There are absolutely no Hospital positions open for new nurses. I am ready to travel so that I can work at the hospitals.

Can you please recommend any cities around Fort Wayne where they have open positions for new nurses? I do not mind travel up to 90 minutes each way.

Thank You.

I am having the same problem!! I graduated from IPFW in May with my BSN and took the NCLEX 3 weeks ago. Every job posting I find says they want someone with at least a year experience, and I'm not having any luck at the hospitals either. I didn't think it would be this hard!! I have to work at Sears until I find a job... this is ridiculous!! Any ideas would be appreciated!

Holly1987,

Thanks for the reply. Are you applying at nursing homes too or just at the hospitals?

Thanks,

I am trying to apply for whatever I can find. I called quite a few nursing homes and they said they weren't even hiring right now. I sent in a few applications online if they were available and filled out an application in person at another because they said they were hiring. I am going to try to work with Mollen Immunization Clinic giving flu shots, but I don't know how many hours I will actually get since the hours are on a first come first serve basis. I feel like the only way to get a job is if you know someone that works in the hospital that can get you in. Let me know if you hear of anywhere that is hiring.

Did you try to apply anywhere outside Fort Wayne? Are you open to travel?

I graduated last year with my LPN, I have had my license for a year now. For you, you would think it would be easier d/t being RN's, but it is still tough. When I graduated I worked at one nursing home/ assisted living as an aide, but there were no nursing positions. I searched for a few months and ended up getting a job at GYH. The pay was not the best, but I needed the experience. GYH hires new grads frequently. If you want some sort of experience until you can get into your desired field, try them. I finally got a job at my other employer 6-7 months ago, and love it. I am now FT in our assisted living. I run my butt off all night, but I love my residents, have fun at work, and love the people I work with/for.

DreamingKim,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for my ignorance but what is GYH? Where is it located? I do not care about pay too much, I am willing to work for lower pay to get some experience under my belt.
