NLN PAX-RN...HeLp!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

i am working on cna certification, as it is a requirement for my school. i have most of my pre-req's completed....i am taking a&p1 and developmental psychology in jan and then will apply for the nursing program in may '11. but the one thing that has me so nervous is the nln pax-rn exam that i must take in either feb or april. i bought the review/study guide for the test (by jones & bartlett) and i am blown away by the material. there are 3 sections: verbal, math, science. the science portion includes physics, chemisty, biology. i have never taken physics or chemistry and dont know how i'm going to learn both in a few months. according to the blogs the majority of the science portion of the test is physics. i dont even know how to prepare for the test! the jones & bartlett study guide clearly states: "this review is meant to be a "refresher" for what you have already learned, not a introduction to the subject. if you have not completed a high school course in a subject, these reviews do not probide you with the knowledge that you need to be successful on a nursing entrance exam". well...thats me. i graduated high school in 1992 and earned an associates in paralegal studies in 2001. so i have been out of school for a long time! i know there has to be people my age or older who are in the same boat and i am desperate to know how they are preparing for this exam or if you've already taken the exam how hard was it??? please anyone that has any helpful info on this i would be greatly appreciate it! thank you! :redbeathe :uhoh3:

HEY! I know it's kind of a late reply, but i thought I would reply anyway.

I just took the NLN PAX exam yesterday and let me tell you.....I am glad it's over! I hardly studied for it. It was much harder than I thought it would be. Surprisingly enough, I did fine on the exam as a whole. I really don't know how because I found myself guessing at alot of the questions. I almost ran out of time on the Reading and word knowledge portion. I had like 10 min. to do 20 more questions!!! O well....Have you taken the test yet? IF you havent taken physics or chemistry yet then the test may be difficult for you. my test had a lot of chemistry on it. There wasnt alot of physics, maybe just a few. There were some questions that were A&PI related and some on nutrition. The math section was basic math...conversions, I had one question on geometry, I had alot of questions dealing with fractions. Math was simple. (to me at least) Reading Comp and word knowledge was the worst for me. Usually that is my strong point, but not this time. Let me know how it goes.

Hi,

I am scheduled to take it in 2 days. I have been doing the practice exams. Do you think I have a chance, even if I am terrible in chemistry? I have taking biology prereq's, but not Chemistry. Do you think if I do o.k. on the rest of the exam, there there are enough chemistry questions to wipe me out? Any suggestions, tips- words of encouragement? I know very little about the exam, scoring, etc. The school I am trying to go to just told me I had to take the PAX and apply for admission to the school. I scheduled the PAX exam before I realized that I would need MORE time to prepare. So now I am obligated to take it in 2 days. HELP?

I think you will be fine. Don't stress out about it. Just pace yourself and read the questions carefully. Just review some basic chemistry.
