Hey all...I'm considering moving from NY to NJ and I was wondering if anyone is able to give me base RN salaries, preferably in Central NJ?

Thanks

Sue

I think every hospital have a different pay rate and schedule. I have always checked through salary.com. They can also give you the numbers that you should expect upon living expenses in NJ and the salary comparison between NY and NJ. I'm currently living in NJ and working in NY. Been in this company for over 3 years now, just before I moved to NJ, so I can't switch until I graduate from Nursing School as they do pay me more than any NJ firm ever offered me. I live in E.B. area and I believe the last person I spoke to was making 62K a year. Hope that helps.

Bad call man. Cost of living out here plus the taxes are terrible! Stay in NY. Stay. Come visit, sure... but don't live here.

Hey, I love central/south Jersey. I'm an LPN, but my husband is an RN and he makes $35/hr. working in ICU. I have an RN friend who works hospice and she makes $26/hr. I have a friend who just graduated and is a new RN, she applied to several central jersey hosp. and I think she said she was offered between 24-26/hr(this is in monmouth county). I hope this is helpfull.

Can I ask how long has your husband been working to get up to that hourly salary ?

Also.....how does OT work ? As I have said in my intro post......I am planning a career change. I currently work 60 - 65hrs per week. Anything over 37.5 is considered OT.......but OT is still straight pay, we just have to fill out forms to get paid for it. Moreover, since I work in NY.....my OT is taxed 50% (along with Bonus').

Where at in Jersey? (PM me)

My husband has been an RN for 19 years, worked at the same hosp for 5. He's not making that much more than less experience nurses who have been at the same hosp for about the same time(maybe $2-3 more). He doesn't do a lot of OT but it is time and a half when he does. It's not taxed differently.

I guess it all depends on what you call Central Jersey. If you live in the top half of jersey, people think Union county and it's vacinities to be Central Jersey. If you live south of Mercer County you think that area plus Ocean, Burlington and Monmouth counties as central. The further north you get, the higher the pay rate is but then again the cost of living is higher up there too. I live in Burlington County, work at a mercer county hospital, graduated last year and I'm making $29.75 an hour. I don't make OT until I'm over 80 hours although I work 72 (3/12's).

It's weird though... I live in in one of the afore mentioned counties considered central and I've always considered myself to live in South Jersey. IMHO they should just split the state in half because after you go above burlington mostly everyone are NY Giants fans anyway. And to clear up a misconception for those of you not from Jersey... NONE of us say "Joisey". Thank you. :lol2:

NJNursing... what's your opinion on Pineys? haha.

But yeah... I mean... NJ is a great place to live, don't get me wrong. You have Philly, New York and the ocean so close by. But the cost of living (esp. in north jersey as you have stated) is higher and the property taxes are incredibly bad in my opinion. It's hard... especially for someone my age who only makes about 12 an hour to move out on my own when the cheapest one bedrooms out there (outside of the ghetto anyway) run about 800-1000 a month... yet I still make too much to live in rent control... go figure.

OMG Pineys are a society all their own. Thankfully I live far enough away from them to not really be involved or that out of the way. I walk 5 blocks west from here and I'm looking at PA.

And it seems like I-195 is the diving point of north vs. south jersey, lol.

I'm proud to be a Piney from my head down to my hiney!!!:lol2:

Same, I live right near Deborah Heart and Lung center.... I am proud to be a Piney as well... though I guess I don't fit the common stereotype of what a Piney "should" be lol.

Question for you guys... why is it "De bore ah" instead of "deb rah"?
