i'm just starting a thread b/c i can't find anything about this. even checked NJ scope of practice and board of nursing. i work at an occupational health/urgent care facility. occasionally, people need blood drawn. the RMAs that i work with just showed me how to do it a few times when i first started and i was assured that it "falls under my license". the only problem is, i don't know if i need a certification or if it really does fall under my license! i never had my "100 sticks" in school because i wasn't an MA student. The first time i drew blood was at my job, when i practiced on a co-worker during some down time. anyone know if an LPN can just draw blood?

Yes, I beleive so, here in Missouri my LPNs at the hospital in my er that I am coordinator of draw bloods all the time, I know alot of hospitals and clinic hire people to be phlebotomists who have had no training at all then train them on the job. In MO LPNs take an IV cert class, and obviousley if you learn how to start an IV then I think your quite capable of drawing blood, also alot of our CNA's and Pct's draw blood, and I do know when I was an LPN at a rural hospital in ER I drew bloods, and I also know of some LPN's in LTC's that do the blood draws and LPN's in the doctors offices usually do also.
