NIU nursing (state nursing school vs private nursing school)

Nursing Students General Students

So, this question may be a little broad. But I recently transferred to NIU (Northern Illinois University) from a private college to hopefully get into the nursing program. But I am really disappointed by the general atmosphere of the campus, the classes are extremely large and impersonal, which I understand is necessary in such a large state school; however, now I am second guessing whether I should enroll in the NIU nursing program if I am indeed accepted or if it may be worth my while to look into a private or smaller bsn program.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the program itself or have heard good things about it. Also, I would like to know how people feel about the differences between private school nursing programs or state school programs. Is the cost difference worth it?

Thank you in advance : )

I don't know about the program you are trying to enter but I am in a BSN program at a private catholic university in KS and I love it! Very small and student oriented facility! I feel that I am getting an amazing education for the price! Private colleges do tend to be a bit higher with tuition but to me it is all worth it! Good luck!

I attend a private college and I love it. The cost is cheaper [or close to the same] than a larger university, but more expensive than a community college. Just make sure the private college is regionally accredited and that it is a state-approved program.

General Education classes and nursing classes may be very different. You might call the School of Nursing at the state school and ask about class size.
