Published

Do ya think its a good idea for a nurse with about 6mos expierience to work night shift in ltc???im wondering if i should switch shifts. Do ya think it would be better if i had more expierience? There will actually be 2 nurses at night so if I ever need help i wont be alone. What do ya think?

After working evenings for 10+ years (including my first nursing job), I'm currently working days in LTC. I HATE days! Too many people to track down, too many families who use Dr. Google, too many MDs who don't return phone calls, too many distractions. Plus, I'd rather go to bed at 5 AM than wake up at 5 AM.

I work nights in med-surg and my least favorite part of the night is from 0600 till end of shift. The bosses start trickling in, the docs start showing up, family members start dropping in, and chaos rules. I don't think I could handle it for 12 full hours without becoming homocidal.
