NICU research paper ideas??

I am a senior nursing student in a Nursing Research class and we have to do an evidence-based practice research paper. I need to pick a topic soon so I can get started. I want to end up working in the NICU as an RN and I was wondering what the best thing for me to research would be that would help me the most once I am an RN in the NICU.

I have thought about Kangaroo care but is there any other ideas?

I LOVE NICU!!!!! I'm not a NICU nurse though, I'm a relatively new nurse and not what NICUs are looking for with this economy.

Some common things I remember seeing in the level III NICU I was assigned to as a student nurse were:

Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Intraventricular hemmorhage of the newborn

Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Hyperbilirubinemia

Anything to do regarding nutrition would be good to write about too like the progression from TPN to milk feedings.

All of these topics have a lot evidence based research. Again like I said I'm not a NICU nurse (wish I was) but learning about all of these things will help your knowledge base as an RN-future NICU RN. These little fighters can be extremely medically complex. I do not think that any one topic is more important then another to know about them since all of it works together. A brain bleed could set back a baby who was feeding, a feeder could develop NEC, etc, etc.
