NICU CNA interview advice

Hi everyone,

I have a NICU Clinical Assistant Interview and I was wondering if you had any tips. Any questions that I should be preparing for? I've been a CNA for 3 years and I'm currently doing my LPN to ADN transitions program, NICU nursing is my dream and I really want to get this job experience! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!!:dummy1:

Look up the company to find out the mission, number of beds, anything that is specific about the culture of the hospital that you can talk about during the interview. "I picked xyz hospital because you believe that (insert researched info here)." Practice answers to common interview questions; these are easily found on career sites like monster. That's the best thing I can tell you. Be prepared for a standard interview and obvious questions like "tell me about yourself" "why NICU?" "what is your 5 year career goal?" ect. Write your answers down so you can read them and feel comfortable but don't sound like you memorized the answers. Be ready for not standard questions "tell me about a time you had a conflict with a co-worker and what you did". These are behavior based questions, and they are becoming more common. Wear professional clothes (NOT scrubs!!) and practice interviewing.

None of the hospitals I worked at have used CNAs in the NICU so I really don't know what they may ask specifically. Google "what do CNAs do in the NICU" as well as the job description for the opening so you are prepared to answer questions about how you fit into that position.

I am confused why you are applying for a CNA position if you are an LPN- unless they do not use LPNs there at all? Good luck!

@not2bblue thanks so much for the advice! And yes the hospital does not use LPNS (only the clinch does) and the recruiter told me that if I want to be an RN they only hire people with hospital experience. Thanks so much for your help!
