Next steps after passing NP exam in MA

Hello everyone!

I have just recently passed my NP exam with AANP and I'm not sure what order to complete the applications to become an APRN in Massachusetts, DEA license, NPI # etc. I was told in school to apply for my federal DEA license 1st, then apply to become an APRN in MA, then an NPI # and then mass health provider. Many websites and people are telling me to apply for my APRN license 1st, but the APRN applications tells me I should have submitted an application to become a mass health provider which requires an NPI# before that, and then DEA should only be applied when I have job. I'm quite confused, I'd appreciate it if anybody could list the steps for me.

Thank you!

According to Massachusetts BON : You must have Board authorization as a certified nurse practitioner (CNP), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), certified nurse midwife (CNM), or pediatric clinical nurse specialist (PCNS) to apply for prescriptive authority.

So you would need to apply for your APRN with the state and then apply for prescriptive authority from the BON prior to applying for your DEA.
