Published

Hello everyone,

My husband is in the militry, so we are relocating to the newport news area shortly. I've been tring to do as much research as possible to get myself familarized with the programs, however sometimes it seems impossible :(. So i would like to ask people who already live in that area two questions:

1. Which Nursing programs for ADN, Diploma, or BSN in this area have pretty much noo waiting list??

and

2. I'm also considering the LPN route... so can yo share some light on the LPN programs... like which schools offer them?? length of time? and program flexabilty??

:wink2:Hello Sunshine! I am a local. I live in Norfolk but will be attending a LPN program in Hampton. Well, I can give you a few places to start. You can check out Riverside Hospital they offer LPN and RN programs. Thomas Nelson is a commujnity college that offers a RN program aswell. Also, Hampton has a technical school called New Horizons Regional Education Center. They offer an adult LPN program that is 18mths long and you can choose day/evening classes. I will be attending this school. My class starts Sept.2nd. Norfolk has a few places aswell like Sentara School of Health Professions,Norfolk Vo-tech and Tidewater Community college. Just to name a few. You can look these places up on the internet to find out more info. I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Stephanie:)

hey stephanie, :yeah:

thank you so much for all the advice. i went on the new horizon regional education centers website.. and read the basic info on the program. the programs looks great and quite similar to the ones offered in my home state... the only difference is the ones bck home are 12mnths and not 18mnths... which is quite a difference! :crying2:. i was kinda looking for a program around a year long in length. i will diffinitely contact the school on monday though to find out more info, b/c their website is very basic.

however i have one last question...if u don't mind... do they offer two programs that start twice a year in fall and spring or only one in fall????

thanks!

they only offer the fall class. if you are looking for a quick 12mth class you may have to check into mci (medical careers institue) or vci (virginia careers institute) but the price is extremly high. mci is $24,900 not sure about vci but may around the same or less. the technical schools have 12mths & 18mth classes they all start in the fall. chesapeake public schools, norfolk vo-tech & virginia beach technical center. obici hospital has a 12mth lpn program and it's daytime only. sentara nolonger offers lpn program.

Hi!

Welcome to Hampton Roads!

I have just completed the New Horizons Regional Ed Ctr's CNA program. I will tell you the instuctors are WONDERFUL! Riverside School of Health Careers has both a day (11 month) and night/weekend (15-18 months??? not sure) LPN program. It runs a little over $8000 with books costing $400ish and uniforms about $250. I needed to complete my program quickly, so I could get back into the workforce. So, their 11 month program is perfect.

Riverside and Sentara both have RN programs and they run about 16K each, and that does not include the college classes you will need. TNCC is a good school too. They take approx 50-60 students each year.....selection is by gpa, entrance exam, and point values given to completed prereqs you will take during the "pre-nursing" program year.

Really, you can not go wrong with any of these schools. Good luck to you and again welcome!!!!

Hi Butterfly! I found another person who went to New Horizons....that's great! I'm attending their LPN program in 29 days. Hey...thanks for including the price for those schools.

I wish you both luck in finding your schools.
