Any Pediatric Nurses in NYC area?

  1. If so, would love to hear your career path and what a "typical" day is like for you (although i imagine there is no such thing as a typical day!)

    Thanks very much.

Your right, no such thing as a typical day. Although the theme is pretty much the same if you work on a general peds floor- kids don't like nurses. At least acutely ill kids don't. Parents don't want you to bother them when they're sleeping. Sad, but true (then I gues they don't need to be in the hospital) Heme/onc- that's another story. It's a completely different world- I love it!! Got to go and give report.

    I appreciate the response.

Do you have special certifications to get a peds job? I just want to prepare myself as best i can. I really, really want to work in Pediatrics.

Nothing special. A BSN helps, but these days, not necessary. If your school does a senior internship, I would try to do peds, to get a real feel of what it's like. BTW sorry I cut you off before. Peds Onc is very rewarding, can also be sad, for obvious reasons.
