My wife is looking to take a contract in New York City, just wondering if anyone has or has heard any stories about hospitals or agency's to stay away from? And how easy is it to renew a contract if we opt to stay there? Thanks!

hello wirn. i am doing "local travel" in nyc. i currently live right outside of nyc, in nj. i am doing work through an agency called access nursing services. they have been outstanding! they have continued to set me up with 13 week contracts at some of the major hospitals out here. they also continue to work with me and let me know when they have a staff postion to offer me. i couldn't have picked a better agency to work with. i wish they did work out in ca or tx, but they deal with the east coast. i would have her look into access nursing services. :nurse:

Hi WIRN,

My first travel assignment was in NYC. Boy, that was sure a learning experience!!! NYC is not an easy place to work by any means. There are cultural differences, language barriers, technology deficits, staffing shortages, etc - must I go on.

I completed my 3 month assignment and was out of there. I have since traveled to Yale-New Haven Hospital and, currently, I am at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. This is my 3rd and last assignment, because I have been accepted to grad school and will be working on my NP.

Good luck in NYC. I didn't mean to scare you. I had no idea what I was walking into when I traveled to NYC. In retropect, I am glad I did it. I grew alot as a nurse and as a person. Good luck!
