New VA job offer in another state

Published

Looking for advice. I work for the VA and have an offer for the same job that I do currently in a VA in another state.  I work from home right now and have no state taxes.
My new job offer in another state has state taxes around 5%. But I get a 23k raise but will be allowed to Telework only few days a week. .The commute is 30 mins to the new job. What would you do in this case

Well as it's not 100% remote work you'd obviously have to move.  First is the job opportunity enough of a step up to make moving worth it? Is it a good career move for you? The money is better, but is it enough to warrant uprooting and moving your life? Is it just you, or would you be moving a family?

What is the potential new city and state like? What does it offer for activities you enjoy or would like to try?  How about weather? Little things like shopping, traffic, etc can all influence your decision.  Would you like living there?

How's the housing market? I assume you wouldn't jump right into home ownership so what's the rental market? Housing options, especially reasonably affordable options are a real issue in many communities.

Nothing but questions to ask that only you can answer for yourself. Moving can be a tough decision!
