new or upcoming BSN to DNP programs

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello- I recently graduated with my BSN in nursing and currently practicing as a RN on a general med/surg floor. I am interested in going back to school eventually for NP and was debating between MSN or DNP-and I think I have decided to go ahead and do DNP.

I have done a lot of research and I have found one website with schools that are accredited for this program, but does anyone know of any schools that will/are transitioning to BSN-DNP programs in the next few years? I am thinking about applying for around the time of 2010/2011. Specifically does anyone know if UNC at Chapel Hill will be transitioning?

Any information would be helpful, thanks!

The University of Iowa has a BSN-DNP program. They have 4 specialties too such as gerontology, pediactric, family practice, and mental health. It will take 3 years for full time study and 4 years for part time study. You do about 1100 hours of clinicals! I bet it is a great program.

This is the program I am looking VERY closely at. They also have an RN to DNP for those with non-nursing bachelor degrees (me) and 1-2 years experience *though not all require experience. Some of their specialties are 1/year admission, with applications due 6 months before, so you REALLY have to plan ahead. I'll be meeting with a nursing program advisor at the close of my first year.

University of Missouri-Columbia is currently accepting applications for it's first DNP class. They have a BSN-DNP option, online program.

University of Arizona in Tucson has a BSN-DNP program that's mostly online. I think its 4 years though. Anyone else know of any others that can be pursued online?

Thanks for all the great info. I am also interested in a BSN-DNP online program. I am trying to find something that is close to my home for the few required on campus/clinical activities. Anyone know if there is anything near Northern Virginia/Panhandle West Virginia area? I heard Johns Hopkins Nursing School is starting one too. Anyone know if this is so?

Thanks, austria

Arizona State University (ASU) has a BSN-DNP online program that requires 2-3 days per semester of on-campus learning which is 3 years in length if taken full-time. They also have part-time options. This DNP program is accredited.

New Mexico State University (NMSU) also has an online 3 year program (full time only) that is brand spankin' new. However, this program has NOT been accredited...yet.

The University of Vermont (UVM) has one starting in Fall 2012 or 13. DEPN program.
