Hi-
I am a nursing student, but would like to get information about becoming a traveling nurse. How do people get started? Is it true that one must have atleast 1 year expr. before becoming a traveling nurse?
I am sure these questions have been asked before, so feel free to direct me to those posts.
Thanks,
smith

Most facilities actually want two years of experience. There are already multiple threads on the travel forum on this same topic, just do a search for them.

Most travel companies require a year to two, as well as hiring hospitals. My advice as a traveller...
1. be flexible with your first assignment, many hospitals won't look at your profile until after you have completed your first travel assignment, especially if it is a very popular area (ie Hawaii) if you only have a year of experience under your belt.
2. Don't be discouraged by waiting a year, use it to do your research, so you're not overwhelmed...explore travel company websites to see what they expect of you and what you need to have ready to go for paperwork, ie copies of you vaccinations and immunizations, you may have to right letters to doctors and schools if you don't have copies yourself
3. explore what requirements you will need to get additional licenses in other states, some are easy and some, well not so easy...
Good luck and enjoy..I've been doing the travel thing for over 2 years now and love it!
