New To Excelsior

Published

Hello, everyone!

I'm a LPN and I just enrolled into Excelsior. . .I have all my textbooks and I'm ready to start studying for NC1. Those of you who have taken NC1 already, do you have any advice???? Is it helpful to read every single chapter that is listed under the reading assignment in the studyguide?

Hi, JaneMarie- it does seem like a lot to go over, doesn't it? If you PM me your email address, I will send you some study materials (notes & practice test). It'll help you get it all organized, and once you do that, it doesn't seem so scary. I also suggest taking the NC practice quizzes on the EC website- they're worth the $, and very close to the actual exams. The key to this program, since so much is covered in each exam, is to go over everything first, then home in on your weak areas. That's what got me through, with pretty good grades, I might add. :)

Hi JaneMarie!

The biggest thing to do is to get organized as lgflamini stated. Everyone seems to study differently - the key is to find what works for you. Personally, I do read every chapter in every book for every reading assignment. By doing this, I feel as though I have all the information and I still complete a course every 4-5 weeks. That has worked for me and so far I've made all 'A's.

Like I said, the hardest part is to discover what works for you and keep working at it!

Best wishes and happy studying!!

I on the other hand am a "Course outline" person. I type out the course outline that is free from Excelsior. This gets me rather familiar with what knowledge that is expected to be retained. Then I go back and fill in the information that it is looking for. From that, I build electronic flash cards that I carry on my PDA, there-by being able to study at any time.

It took me a couple of courses to find what works best for me, try several.
