New student here at Hondros

Published

First off, since this is my first post, I would like to say hello to everyone here! :w00t:

I have been trolling this site and forum for several months ever since I decided to make the switch to nursing school. I was at the University of Cincinnati for 3 years (2 years in business and 1 year in IT) before I decided to look into their nursing school. But their waiting list was over a year long. So after looking on here I saw the list of schools with no waiting list and saw Hondros on in. I just started my classes on Monday (Jan 7th) so I've only been in it for about a week now. But so far it seems good, the only thing I can compare it to is business and IT classes at UC. But if anyone has any questions about Hondros I would be more than happy to answer them for you. Also just FYI I'm taking my classes at the West Chester and Mason locations.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that rule. I did read that students have to pass the math component to Nursing 110 with at least a grade of 90% or they are unable to continue with their nursing courses. Do you remember if that was difficult? It's been a long time since I was in school so I couldn't believe that a 77.9 or less gives you an "F"!

I'm going into my 4th quarter of LPN and the only things that we've practiced on each other are: catheters, IV's, and NG tubes... :jester:Just kidding all we've done is just basic vitals on each other. We practiced all of our injections on the mannequins and nerf balls.

The math is just one test towards the end of the quarter. It was very easy, most of us didn't even go to class because it the teacher didn't require us to come. You get 2 chances to pass it, I think about 45 out of 50 of us passed it the first time and everyone did by the second time. I think there were 20ish questions on it... Yeah the grade scale is different, but it's the same at most if not all nursing programs. It's 100-93 A, 92.9-85 B, 84.9-78 C, 77.9 and lower is failing. And they don't round up, so if you have like a 92.6 they won't round up to 93 you're stuck with the B.

If you guys want to PM me on here with more questions/concerns that may be easier...

Hi guys, I am enrolled in the january program at hondros and this thread is really making me second guess myself. I have just turned in my two week notice at work so i am really hoping hondros has there stuff together this quarter. Does anyone else know what were supposed to do to register for classes?

Paul

You should have gotten a letter telling you about the new student orientation by now, and the school should have called you to let you know if you had anything left to complete. (Although they seem to be a little unorganized!) Have you completed everything on the check-off in the folder? I think at this point all we can do is wait.....

Hi Paul, You can register for all your classes right now if you go on the "student portal". I just completed registering for all of my classes. If you don't have all of your documents turned in, the system may not let you do it (but I doubt it). The instructions on how to do it are located on the "home" page. The classes are filled on "first come, first serve basis" and there were just a few seats left for the class NUR 110 Clin Cin-A.

I also just wanted to mention that if you go to the student portal and go under the "Document Tracking" menu, it should show you all of the docs. that you have submitted and what is left for you to give them. You have to check the box "show all documents". The completion date is basically your receipt the the document was submitted. If you submitted something and it is not showing a completion date, I would call the school and verify that it is in your folder. This happened to me and the document was in my folder but not updated on the system. I asked them to update the system ASAP. When I was finished giving the school all of my documents, I printed the page off and kept as a record (just in case).

Hey guys! The portal was "having technical difficulties", so I called the school. Carolyn got me registered for all of my classes over the phone. So, if you have any problems with your schedule, make sure you call her. I tried to talk to her about clinicals, and she make it sound like there aren't going to be any problems for us, as long as we're signed up for them. Hopefully that is the case. (Of course, I suppose it's her job to say that!:D) I have to say that even though I'm still nervous about some of the potential problems we've talked about, I am totally getting excited about starting, now that I'm registered for my classes!:yeah::yeah::yeah:

I'm a little nervous too, but I'm sure it will all work out. It is exciting!!!

does anyone know if we are supposed to follow the outline in our folder when registering for classes or just pick and choose around our schedule. also i have everything turned in except my which i am still waiting on proof of coverage. i am glad i found this thread. it has been very informative. i will be at the orientation on the 16th and look forward to meeting all of you.

Paul

Hi Paul! Make it easy on yourself and just call Carolyn to get registered! She had my classes set up in less than 2 min.! If you want to try to do it through the portal (if it's working now), there is a sample schedule you can follow on your paperwork checkoff sheet. (I think there's one on the portal as well.) The instructions for registering are also on the portal.

I know the deadline was yesterday to submit the documents but I don't know how strict they are about that. It took about a week for me to receive my coverage document through the mail, but the school will probably accept a receipt of purchase that you can have emailed to you if you call the company (or it might be available on the web-site if you used the site recommended by the school which is how I got my receipt). If you call the school about the schedule, they can probably clear any concerns you have.

Is anyone going or currently in the RN program at Hondros? If so, what do you think about it? I heard after just one quarter, students are transferring to another school because they hate it.
