Hello Everyone....
I'm very excited to be a part of this community. I have been reading through the various forums and feel so at home here - he he.
A bit about myself - I just graduated from nursing school with my BSN/RN last May and passed the boards in September - ya took a bit of a break in between - he he.
But soon after I began interviewing and accepted a position in a 12 bed PICU in a trauma hospital. I start on Monday and am extremely nervous and scared. I've read through a lot of the posts and I think I am up to the challenge. I just need to gear myself up a bit more.
One thing that I can't wait for its to share my love with my patients and their families. I hope that will help me survive the initial change from student nurse to registered nurse.
Also looking forward to talking and sharing with everyone here!! You all sound like awesome people and I'm excited! Just ask you to help me through the next few weeks!!!
Thank You!!! Glad to be here!
By the way - I'm pretty sure you can tell from the name I'm a HUGE U2 fan!!!!
Love nursing!!!

Welcome and congrats on your new job. So how was your first day? This is definitely an exciting time for you! My best advice to you is to take one day at a time and expect the first 6 months to a year to be rough. The first year as a nurse can be very overwhelming and PICU is a very challenging, intense environment.
Ask lots of questions and take moments to just watch the more experienced nurses. It is amazing how much you can learn just by watching.
Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

Good Luck. I will be in your shoes in July. I am going to be graduating with my BSN/RN and took a job in a big PICU in a Level 1 trauma center. How is it going so far? You can do it. You made it through nursing school and the boards, so put your mind to it and you'll be awesome!
Hello everyone....
Thanks for all your motivation - believe me it really helps me!! I just went through the Gernal Orientation today and it was overwhleming and I'm so tired!!
However, I went up to the PICU to pick up my schedule and meet my clinical coach-that was nerve wracking in inself. My coach seemed nice but I dunno-I guess in a quick meeting its difficult to read her. I just really hope we can work together really well.
I got so much information today that my brain is exhausted and so am I.
My first shift is Saturday and Sunday so I'll let you know how it goes!
Take Care
Thanks for your thoughts!
