hello everyone!
To make a long story short... I am a new RN, applied to many different hospitals throughout nyc\LI could not get a med\surg.. or any hospital job. I started my search back in sep 08. i finally got a job in an obg-gyn clinic.. make good money but is not what i want.
So as a result i decided to go out of state and applied for a new grad position in SC(charleston) oncology-surgical and to be honest oncology has been my passion since the start of nursing school. they call me up to go down for an interview..if i go what are the questions i need to ask? besides salary-benefits?( this is a teaching hospital)
So here is my dilema should i pack and leave or should i stay in ny and wait around? ( Im single- no kids)
please i need some advice!
thank you :heartbeat

I wish I could tell you Charleston is the place to be. I'm just graduated from MUSC. There are a couple of big hospitals, MUSC, Roper, and Trident Medical Center. MUSC is in a financial crisis they expanded and built a hospital that was out of their budget and are now paying for it. They've told everyone no pay raises, fired all the travelers and people in my class could not get jobs to save their lives. They have recently started interviewing people again, especially for Neuro Stepdown... If you are interviewing for surgical oncology at MUSC- I had clinical there and really liked it... so that's a plus.. Just beware- the atmosphere at the hospital is a little iffy..
Roper- is by far my favorite hospital, if you can get an interview there.. GO! They have their MAGNET visit next week- so hopefully they will become Magnet certified in January or February. Really nice hospital, in the process of major renovation, really friendly/happy staff..
You can't beat Charleston... So if you can get in a stable job.. do it!

Hey everyone I have been reading up on these forums quite a bit lately and finally decided to make my first post. I will be graduating from a BSN program in May 09' and am really looking forward to and excited about moving to the Charleston area. I was looking for any information regarding who to contact in the area about finding a job for a new grad.? I live in Ohio now and am nervous about moving down to the area before I knew of a job that I could secure. Any helpful information would be wonderful.

To OP:
If this sounds like an ideal position for you, in terms of area, I'd say go for it. The worse that could happen is you end up coming back to NY but you'd be coming back with exp. which would help to make you more marketable. Good luck in whichever path you decide. By the way, if you dont mind me asking, which ob clinic hired you as a new grad?, thats exactly what i'm looking for.
