greetings all...I am a new nurse who graduated 4 years ago, but haven't gotten into nursing until now. I am currently halfway through an amazing RN refresher course, and I am wanting any feedback about my options. I have a passion for the OR, and upon completion of my course, I would really like to go straight to the OR. Many instructors I have spoken with have told me that I should do at least a year of med-surg, and I would appreciate any feedback that any of you wonderful nurses would have for me. I currently live in nyc and any information or advice that you would have for me would be appreciated, thank you.

There is absolutely no reason to get a year of med-surg experience for working in the OR. Just make sure that you get a thorough orientation.
Good luck........... :)
