I recently received a position on a post-partum/Nursery unit and will be starting in a week. I would like to know how i can repare myself to start my orientation. I would like to be prepared as much as possible because i do not want to feel like a fish out of water. what can i expect? what can i do to prepare myself? Any information is welcome.

When I start a new position I reach out to the unit educator prior to starting. They normally have great resources that follow the practice and philosophy of the unit. That way you're not wasting time on information that contradicts their practice. All of the educators have complimented me on my initiative and it shows your dedication and work ethic prior to even starting and starts you off on a good foot before orientation even starts.
Otherwise review your ob stuff from school. Don't worry about being a fish out of water, everyone was a new nurse at some point, even if they don't remember it.
Things that helped me early on were looking at other nurses paperwork/notes to see how they organized their data while receiving report and then kept track of updates throughout the shift in order to give the next report. It helped me see what they prioritize and I felt more in control of my day once I had a good paperwork system, I wasn't flipping through my hand off sheets and looking at the erecord so much.
Also keep a running list of questions you think of while you're at home or too busy to ask in the moment. You're not going to find out everything the first day or even the first month.
GOOD LUCK!
