Hello everyone, this is my first thread on this site so please help a noobie out. I'm really sorry for this extra long info.
Currently I'm attending OCC junior college in CA. I'm a 3rd year student there with GPA around 3.2. My wanted to become a pharmacist so I went into Biology major, spend like 2 years struggled to finally realized that this major is not for me mainly because "I don't want to stay in a room 8+ hours almost everyday for the rest of my life". So I decided to change to Computer Science major for networking (this is my first semester for this major). So far I have decent grades for my Java programming class but I realized that all this programming is not for me neither because it TOO HARD, the high level math requirement part also discourage me.
For the past couple days, I've been interested in Nursing Major and this is what I've planned. First I'll get my Associate Degree for Nursing in OCC then find some part time jobs for get experience and extra financial support. If possible I want to my out on my own and able to support myself. Afterward, I'll get my BSN and the license to become registered nurse. If everything goes well, I'll get my master for this major as well. This is what I've planned.
1. When I search around on the internet, many people said that this major is really hard and highly competitive is this true??? I live in California and planning to go to to school there please tell me some good schools for this major.
2. Comparing to Pharmacist and CS major, please tell me if Nursing is easier or harder than these two (school wise). If possible please rate these from 1 - 10, 1 = easiest, 10 = hardest.
3. What kind of classes do I have to take for this major.
Once again I'm really appreciate for answering this. I've been stressing out for days because of this lol..... thank you

Well, nursing presents its own unique challenges just like any other career. It's mental and technical. You can't just know it, you have to be able to do it. It's hard work to be a nurse, and naturally it's hard work to go to school to become one, too.
I'm not trying to be mean or judgmental but I just don't recommend opting for Nursing because you feel it might be an easier major. It may not be rocket science but it's anything but easy. I can understand not wanting to be trapped in a lab 8 hours every day...but work is work. You're going to be stuck somewhere for 8 hours...and anymore it can be 12 or more for nurses.
The main prerequisite courses I can think of that you'll hear most often associated with nursing are anatomy and physiology, microbiology, algebra and psychology. Nursing programs are pretty competitive. I was rejected from a university program with a 3.3 GPA.
Anyways I apologize if I've offended you. I was a late bloomer myself in realizing that I wanted to be a nurse, but I can honestly say if it wasn't what I deeply desired to do, I would have quit by now. In my opinion it's a very rewarding career, but it has high demands and there is nitty gritty to being a nurse that you'd never have to deal with as an IT specialist that's for sure!
Best of luck to you!
