New to nursing -- advice, applied to accelerated BSN

Published

Hello!

I just graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in nutritional sciences. I was pre-med for my time there, but had a change of heart before my senior year (during applying). I felt nursing would better suit my career goals.....so I took the nursing prereqs needed.

I applied to USF accelerated BSN for fall admission only -- the other deadlines had passed by the time I decided that was the path I wanted to take, or I didn't have the prereqs complete. I have a 3.57 -- but that includes Organic Chem 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, Biochemistry, etc etc.

I just recently found out I am on the waiting list for USF, and I will find if I am declined for sure in 3 weeks.

I really really want to stay in Tampa (family, serious relationship, etc). However, USF acc. BSN only looks at GPA --- considering the courses I took, I thought my GPA looked good. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve my chances next time around? With over 120 credits, my GPA isn't budging too much.

I am really hoping I will get in from the waiting list...but otherwise I will find a job. I was planning on applying to UF, UCF, UNF for 2009 and USF again. However, I don't think there is anyway to increase my chances at USF -- they only look at GPA.

I have a good resume with many different types of experience.

Any advice????

Hi Cea,

Your GPA is pretty good for accelerated BSN programs. I think USF requires a 3.0 or higher. There are budget cuts going on, so I think they are getting somewhat selective in their applicants. However, you are on the waiting list, so I would wait until you hear back from them. I wish you the best!

I was accepted into the program with a 3.6, and believe me, I was sweating it!

I would definitely just wait to hear; you could well be accepted this fall.

And if so, then I'm excited to meet you!

All the best!
