New Nurse

Published

Hello, I am a new nurse. I would really like some advice or suggestions. I am a new graduated nurse working as a LPN, for 3 weeks. I was a cna (shy) at my job wotrking there for 6 years. Now I am working at the same job, but as an lpn. Since my 3 weeks as a nurse, my coworkers say amongst themselves that i'm stupid, why would they hire me and put in danger the residents. Yes, I do ask questions, or ask nurse to recheck to see if I am doing it right (assessing, charting, ect..). I do talk to the residents, tell them what i'm going to do before I do it. My question is what books should i read to become a more rounded profound nurse. I even thought about working where I'm at and at a hospital, so I can really be good at my job.

Specializes in ICU.

How do you know this is what they are saying about you? Have you personally heard it?

Yes, I can hear them down the hall and when I walk up they stop talking.

It's impossible to know their motives for saying that. Maybe they don't have actual concerns but are just catty? I feel if there were legitimate concerns about your practice, you would know them. A supervisor would have already approached you with specifics.

That said, we all have areas for improvement. Is there a trusted senior nurse at your work that could give you constructive feedback? Then you can formulate a plan on how to address those weak areas.

Specializes in Psych (25 years), Medical (15 years).

One of my mantras: "My happiness is not a result of what others do or say or what happens around me. My happiness is result of being at peace with myself."

There will always be backstabbing unpleasable chronic malcontents wherever you go, coconut. We can't let them be responsible for our worth.

I sense that you are a caring, concerned, involved nurse who is willing to do some self examination in order to improve your skills. Good for you. Take the higher road and continue on our path and don't throw your pearls before pigs and swine. Be the very best nurse you can be and be done with it.

As far as seeking information on becoming "a more rounded nurse", you've come to the right place. AN.com.
