Hello I'm new to the area and I recently started looking for RN position's and just started getting call backs for RN positions at Duke and UNC and UNC Rex. Can someone give me a run down on the benefit differences, PTO and possibly some units they like? I've read tons of forums on duke having great benefits for the price and great tuition reimbursement like UNC but that Rex doesn't share the same quality but pay is more. I have interviews coming up and I want to have all my eggs in the basket before i have to make the decision. I've been looking into the short stay unit at rex and ortho at duke. Any suggestions would be great!!

Come to ortho @ Duke!!!!!!! I have been there 6 years. I love it.
When I got hired, there was tuition reimbursement for my ADN. After 3 years, I was eligible for benefits for Duke employees (paid for my BSN) and then there is a benefit if you want to go to Duke (they paid 75% of my tuition to get a MSN at Duke).
There are lots of discounts that you get if you tell them you are a Duke employee. ATT/Verizon. Discounts at just about every kind of business.
There are lots of opportunities (free and reimbursed) for continuing education.
Things are going to get exciting as we move to the new 11 story tower in the next year (Ortho will be on the top floor).
I can't say enough good things. It is not perfect, no place/job is, but there have been many nurses that play musical jobs in the area and seem to end up where they started.
I like the experience of working in a teaching hospital. We get to see many conditions that one may not see in a career.
I did my clinicals at Rex and it is a nice facility. But I know a few people that didn't like the culture there (and of course, many that love it).
I don't think you can go wrong at any of the hospitals here. There is is high quality medical care at each.
Parking is an issue at Big Duke (not Regional or Raleigh) and at UNC (not at Rex). There is also WakeMed which is another fine hospital.
Oh great! I'm glad I found someone that works in ortho! I have a phone call with a recruiter this evening to schedule an interview. I did my preceptorship on an ortho floor and loved it! I'm a little concerned with the parking. Hopefully things work out! Thank you!!
I forgot to ask you are you at the Raleigh or Durham Ortho?
Big Duke (there are 2 in Durham). Which are you looking at?
The main hospital in Durham I'm interviewing at first and then possibly Raleigh. So durham is the hospital getting the new tower? I'm a little worried regarding parking in Durham.
