just wondering if anyone has any good advice for a new nurse in a new job? i got the dream job at the best hospital around in the cardiac medical progressive care unit. basically that is telemetry! :) anyway...i just was looking for some good pointers or tips that anyone has! i also was wondering what supplies everyone likes to have handy? i know of course the general stuff like my scope, pen light, scissors, clip board, lots of pens, etc. but i was wondering if there was anything that i wouldn't think of to bring that came in handy for you? i am just nervous to start on the floor and want any advice i can get! i have been through the first week of rn training and next week we are doing computer charting...so i still have 2 weeks till im on the floor (love our education program)! but i just wanna be prepared cause that helps me be less nervous!
thanks in advance for the advice! :)

Congrats on the fantastic job! I wish I was excited about my new job.
Don't forget your drug book. The ordered drug (brand name) will be in the Pyxis under the generic. And the Pyxis doesn't have a cross-reference tool that I know of. Gotta use the old-fashioned book.
Best wishes!

Congrats! That's awesome. I would say all the above plus I found scrub pants that have cargo pockets helpful. It is good to use a "brain" or "cheat" sheet for patient info or come up with your own. I found a small sharpie helpful that I connect to my badge with a loop ring for labeling stuff. Will you have to read rhythms on your floor? If so a pair of calipers is always helpful since the unit's always seem to disappear. This is just from my preceptor experience in a CVSU (Cardiovascular Surgical). Congrats again and best of luck!
