new nurse graduate's concerns about Nclex

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi, Every one:

I am in Tennessee. I just graduated from the RN nursing school. I will take Nclex in March. I am wondering if any one here knows the following question I am so concerned about.

1. If I fail the first Nclex-RN, how long should I wait to take the second one? And how long should I wait to take the third one if I fail the second one?

2. Is there a maximum time I can take Nclex-RN in Tennessee? x3 or x4 or x6 or unlimited? Where can I find the official information?

3. Is there a limited time frame to take the test? For example, should I take and pass the test in one year or two year or three years? If I cannot pass the test in a cerntain time, should i need to go back to school again? I am so scared about going back to nursing school again.

Thanks a lot!!

I would focus on passing the exam the first time.

States determine the earliest that you can retest, either 45 or 91 days. Each sets their own amount of days.

Not all states grant an interim permit for you to work as a GN, and if you are in a state that does, you just get either 180 or 360 days to take the exam and pass it.

I suggest trying to take the exam within two months of graduating.

The official information for your state is listed on the website of the Board of Nursing for your state.

check your state board's website. most of your questions will be answered there. also once you have graduated from an accredited nursing school, they don't take away your diploma. you won't have to go back. :)

hey bbpp,

i am a recent graduate and have taken the nclex a total of 3 times and still have not passed it. i missed by one section the last two times. i am still just as determined however. don't give these test makers too much credit here. how you do on your nclex is no direct implication of what kind of nurse you will be. i was on high honors at my college and landed a job where they typically don't accept graduate nurses. if you pass... don't worry... you'll get another shot... just pick up where you left off. but... go into that test telling yourself you will pass. one thing at a time. don't look into the "what ifs" because they take you away from concentrating on the "whens". you're gonna do great!

good luck!

Thank you so much!!

Good Luck to you! I believe you will PASS it very soon.
