New Nurse Grad program Emory

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Does anyone know anyhting about new grad programs at Emory? What is it like to work there? What about the salary/cost of living and safety of living nearby the hospital? I am interested in continuing my education to become a nurse practioner, and Emory pays 80% toward your costs. It looks like a good fit, but I am from Florida, and know nothing about Atlanta! My kids are grown, and I am soon to be a single woman, starting over :(. Any advice, insights, or cautions about Emory -hospital and Master's program, Atlanta etc. would be so appreciated!

Specializes in ER.

I don't know about that program but I will say Emory is well respected all over the United States. It is a very highly ranked nursing school. I can't remember what number but it is in the top 10 nationwide. GL!

I went to Emory for my masters in public health and my fiancee got his PA degree there. Both of us loved it. It is very expensive but you get what you pay for. I took a few classes in the nursing school there and was very pleased. I would also consider GA state, I am getting my BSN there(as a second degree student) in 16 months. It is a very competitive program and well regarded. I am not sure what type of MSN you are pursuing but I would look there as well. It is downtown but there are trains from most suburbs that go straight into GA state.

With regards to Emory, it is a very safe area but not as inexpensive as other suburbs. The salaries at Emory are very competitive, the other hospitals you may want to look at depending on your specialty are St. Joseph's, Northside, CHOA, Piedmont. I would assume most of them reimburse for MSN. What specialty are you pursuing?

Specializes in Telemetry, Home Health, Geriatrics.

There are 2 primary Emory hospitals in Atlanta, Emory University Hospital and Emory Midtown (formerly Crawford Long). Both are very difficult to get into as a new grad.

This past Spring, when I graduated, Emory did not post ANY new grad positions. They did all of their hiring internally from those new grads who were scholarship recipients, Emory students, or techs (employees) of Emory prior to graduation.

Good luck with getting on there. I don't know the status of the new grad hiring at this time (December grads), but check their website: www.emoryhealthcare.org.

Best wishes to you!!
