Hi, I am a new RN in the cleveland area looking for a better job. I took the first position offered to me 6 months ago in a ltc facility. I like it well enough but think I would get better experiences in a hospital. The problem I run into is that everyone wants 1-3 years of experience. Does anyone else have this problem? How do I get around this or do I just have to wait my way though it? help PLEASE

I'm in California and it's hard to find even a LTC job here. Most residencies have 500- 600 nurses applying.
I've talked to some recruiters and I'm hearing it's going to be a while till more jobs open up, like 2011. I say if you find a job providing patient care, stay.

did you do clinicals in the hospital all of your semesters in school? were you in clinical a total of a year? That counts as experience and you should be proud to count it! I know it may not be much but in my experience talking to employers they do consider this experience note what you learned on the floor how many patients you took care of what kind of care you provided ect.
Did clinicals every semester, plus trained in phlebotomy and had two nurse tech jobs. From what I have been told they are looking for RN experience because that means they won't have to pay as much for your training.
LA is just too saturated with RN grads. I'm looking out of state right now.

It must be really difficult. You are halfway there (to the 1 yr mark). Can you hang in there and try and get as much accomplished as possible while you are there? I'm not all that familier with some of the protocols in your area, are you able to initiate a few programs or whatever while you are where you are? Maybe you could build up a portfolio to use for getting the job that you want?
