New NP needs Tips Pearls or nuggets

Hey folks

I just graduated and will be starting my first job in family practice in 2 weeks. Nervous about starting a new job since I have been top dog around where I work for a long time and now going to be the newbie that will be asking alot of question.

Does anybody have any New NP tips or Pearls of wisdom or nuggets of advice.

I seen TraumaRUs works on an ambulance still as do I for a volunteer squad. I was wondering if any special insurance had to be taken out for malpractice. Front what I can gather I can only operate at the level of the rig no matter what training I have. My rig is Intermediate and I am a paramedic and RN so only function as EMT-I while on the rig. My main concern was that I could be picking up my own patients and them expecting me to treat them in the ambulance. I live in down state Illinois and we have lots of malpractice lawyers in this states

Wow jcowger. I'm in your neck of the woods, downstate IL. Are you a PHRN? My fire dept is B, non transporting. I keep my own separate from my job and just added the pre hospital info to it.

I am a Paramedic I started this fun game as a basic oh so many years ago and have continued to keep going back to school. My malpractice is paid for by the hospital clinic that I will be working for not sure If I could afford extra malpractice I heard it not cheap

For me, it runs approx $1400/year. I like having my own policy who only looks out for ME. You are protected by the hospital policy but you must ALWAYS ALWAYS do EVERYTHING per policy. If you get involved in a suit (and IL is know to be quite lawsuit-happy), your hospital can hang you out to dry. Always better to have someone in your corner just for you.
