najah, can you please be more specific as to what the homework is all about? What is the purpose of the interview itself? Is it to find out how the unit is managed? or is it to find out the problems encountered in the workplace? or are you referring to questions a prospective nurse employee should ask a manager during a job interview? It would be nice if you can post the exact instructions given by your teacher so members can better help you with your school work.
It's for a leadership and management course where we discover the Decision-making and Important managerial skills to run a unit so it might be questions about what it takes to be in that position
In order to be successful, a good nurse manager among many other things should have good decision-making skills, is able to delegate, communicates well, develops and motivates staff, effectively manages the day to day operations, and resolves conflicts well. To explore a nurse manager's leadership qualities and effectiveness, it might be helpful to ask these questions:
1.Can you please give me a background regarding the unit you are managing?
2. What is the most effective managament style you have used so far in your unit?
3. What do you consider is the most challenging aspect of your role? Can you give me an example of a very tough decision you had to make in the past? How did you go about it?
4. How do you manage conflict among staff? among patients?
5. What is the normal staffing pattern in your unit? What problems do you encounter when it comes to staffing? How do you go about staffing problems?
6. How do you motivate and retain staff? Can you give an example how you motivated a reluctant staff to perform well? What's your take on staff development? How do you evaluate staff performance? How often do you give feedback?
7. How do you delegate tasks? What considerations do yo have in mind when delegating responsibilities and tasks? Can you give me an example of an important task that you delegated? How did you ensure its success?
8. Can you give examples on how your unit help in achieving the mission, vision and goals of the organisation?
9. What do you think are the very important skills a manager should have to succeed in this area?
10. What is the most effective way to communicate to your subordinates?
11. Can you describe to me what it takes to be an effective manager?
12. Am I asking too many questions? hhahaha
Good luck. Hope this helps.
thank u very much
