New to MICU, excited to be part of this community

Last week I got a job offer to start working in MICU in a level one trauma hospital and I accepted it. I am so excited.

Ever since I entered nursing school, it's been my dream to be an ICU nurse. When I first graduated, I had to work on Med Surg/Tele floor first, in fact in this area, it was a miracle I even got a hospital job. I was disappointed, but I soon realized it was a blessing because I became good at many skills and my confidence as a nurse grew.

I was always looking for ICU job, but without success, I did not have connections anywhere, and my hospital only wanted to hire experienced nurses from outside. Plus I was commuting one hour each way and I did not know how long I wanted to continue doing that. I was getting depressed because I received one rejection after another. After Christmas I decided to start hiking on my days off and the time in the hills gave me chance to think, reflect, analyze what's going on in my life. I decided that I will not give up, and I will make this search my "part time job". I made a battle plan and 4 weeks later I received a job offer in a hospital that is the best in the area.

And by the way, this hospital is only 15 minutes from my home.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

Congratulations on your new job, and welcome to ICU nursing.

:) Welcome! You will learn tons during your orientation. Im about half way done with my MICU orientation after working in a trauma level 1 ER for 1.5 years and I'm still learning new and exciting things everyday. If you start to feel overwhelmed just keep on asking questions. Good luck!
