New Michigan Nursing Student!

Published

Hi I posted a intro thread but then found this forum!! I am a prenursing student just waiting to finally start the program at Schoolcraft. I have all my prereqs done and now am just taking some nursing electives and my pharmacology classes.

I have one more class until I can get my phlebotomy certificate and then I am planning on volunteering somewhere to get experience in it. Someone suggested the Redcross and some hospitals will train you also. Does anyone know of any hospitals actually willing to train you for phlebotomy/med tech positions?

I am currently looking for a job anywhere that can help me get my foot in the door of the medical field. I have applied to so many jobs and believe I meet the qualifications but its hard when you have no medical work experiences.

Also I dont start the program until next fall 2008 and I was thinking of either taking classes for being a C.N.A or just taking some classes at Schoolcraft to become an M.A since I already have a lot of the credits. I just want to keep busy and in school until Fall 2008!!!

Any suggestions? Sorry if im all over the place but sometimes school just frustrates me!!

Thanks!

Hello -

I don't have any advice about job positions, but like you I am admitted to 2008 at Schoolcraft, have just finished my pre-reqs, and wondering what I'm going to do until then...

I am also applying to Wayne State for their accelerated BSN, but don't know if I'll get accepted. I am hoping Schoolcraft calls me up early, but they won't tell me how far down I'm on the list. I'm definitely taking the summer off, but I may be looking for something to do this fall as well!

I see you live in Southfield... check with Providence. I know that University of Michigan (sorry, that's where 99% of my experience is) will train phlebotomists and actually prefer it that way, rather than hiring someone with previous experience, so they can teach you THEIR way.

Thanks! I am checking out U of M and have an appointment with them next week. Hopefully it works out
