Hi, I'm new to the forum and am seeking advice on becoming a new aesthetic RN. I have taken classes and am seeking insurance privately but am finding lots of roadblocks. I have a medical director available and we will be starting with botox and dermal fillers, but I am having a hard time with insurance, etc. His insurance does not want to cover me if I don't have a separate policy. I contacted Marine Agency as someone recommended and the policy looks good and comprehensive, but it also requires high hourly amounts of training or 1 year of experience. How do you get the experience or that much training before you get the insurance? And it sounds like I will lose my NSO personal Liability Insurance that I currently hold for my real job. I really am excited about this but we (the M.D. and I) are having some questions about the legality of it all. We are in Colorado. Any hints?

Marine Agency is the best one out there. And the only one that I recommend.
And yes, you will have issues with your NSO insurance in most cases, since you will now be doing cosmetic work. High malpractice insurance for the doctor as well, and I hope that they are either a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist.
The only way to get the hours is to do an internship thru someone that has an existing practice in many cases, or take the additional classes that are required to make up the hours. The insurance agency wants to make sure that you have enough experience under your belt, and it makes it a safer bet for them to insure you. Starting a business in something that you just learned, without the actual experience behind you, does not make good business sense.

Marine ins. is the one that i currently use for permanent makeup and microdermabrasion. you really should talk to marylyn there and see if she can help. remember that contracts thru the mail etc should always be followed up with a personal call to answer the questions that you have as well as serve to see how well they service you.

Hi,
I am a 46 y.o. nurse from San Francisco and I have a weightloss clinic in San Fran area and I have a N.P. that is trained in botox/fillers and I am looking for a physicians that has or can apply for a license in California and become our "supervising M.D." Basically, what this means to the M.D. is, my n.p. does all the work and he can be available for telephonic supervision and she can fax him new patient charts to co-sign and the M.D. gets 51% of our monthly profit! ( I would take care of all overhead costs ) We are extremely educated, safe, hard working nurses with a great reputation and access to hundreds of patients that go through our weight loss center. The current M.D. we work with is basically semi-retiring so, I am looking for a M.D. from out of the area because we are not interested in building up a local M.D.'s practice but our own! I am told California law allows this type of set up as long as the physician receives 51%. We are from a wealthy area in California and these types of businesses are showing large profits within 6 months! I have just recently started to explore this option so I would appreciate it if you could forward this to any M.D. who might be interested and I will gladly forward you any info I see or read about Colorado law. I have talked with a couple of California M.D.'s who have checked with their malpractice ins. and both of them said if they had a R.N. perform botox/filler their insurance will not go up, only if a N.P. performs the procedure. I thought that was interesting. ( Since I am a R.N., that motivated me to sign up for botox filler training immediately! )
Good luck to you in your venture and hopefully, we could assist each other in building successful skin care offices!
Respectfully,
Mary
