New LPN who is thinking about advancing career to medical school, but is a single mom

Published

Hello I'm a 21 year old single mother who is one week away from my pinning as an LPN. It's been a long and confusing road with some set backs. I changed my major quite a bit before saying "what the heck" and going for LPN To be out of school sooner. After some epiphanies I realized my life wasn't over at 25. So I decided that maybe trying for a doctor was still on my radar, and now I'm beginning to look at schools that would help a nurse go that route. And yes there are plenty of places that help nurses go from nursing-MD I was hoping to get some advice from real people on what medical school is like, and would it be possible for a single mother? I can be an excellent student when I'm interested and motivated, but right now I'm too stressed out worrying that if I try this route I'll miss the next 10 years of my son's life, and I already had to miss so much to finish nursing school. Any advice/resources/or anything that would help me see light at the end of the tunnel/be less stressed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS: I am very set on this and my biggest problems will be financial issues and missing out on my son

If you're seeking Medical School information from insiders, you probably need to look in a physician-education forum instead of one that is focused on Nursing.

I just wanted to congratulate you on following your dreams. I don't know any helpful info about going the MD route but i think it's awesome that you are doing what you desire.
