New Kid Around The Block

I am having an interview to try to get into an LVN program. I'm completely sweating it because there are many people trying to get into the 15 person class and i feel unprepared. i mean I'm a recent high school graduate with no previous medical experience.

Honestly what are my chances of being accepted?

What should i expect in the interview?

If i do not get in, what should i do next, try to get into another program or just go to community college to start working on my pre-requisites?

f i DO get in, what should i expect for the class!

I got into nursing school without any experience. So please don't let that scare you. What matters is being yourself during the interview. Relax and be confident in your answers. Most importantly PRACTICE interview questions. Visit websites that have practice nursing interview questions that you can follow. There are the typical nursing questions that you will be asked, so prep on those. For example: Why nursing? What are your strengths (i.e. work ethics) or weakness? (look at the strategies on how to answer this question). The fact that you just graduated from high school and already interviewing for a nursing school is quite impressive. You already have a goal in life and have taken the steps to achieve that at such a young age. Be proud of yourself. You deserve to get a seat into that nursing school. That is what you should be thinking when you walk into that interview.

Now for your Plan B: Which I pray you don't have to worry about. There are many other type of nursing program out there. So don't rely on one school. Do your research and you will find other nursing schools nearby. Do take classes at a community college but speak to a guidance counselor to find out what classes you need to take for your pre-reqs. There are standard nursing pre-req classes that all nursing school require. You don't want to be taking random classes.

Nursing school is not a breeze. It requires hard work, a lot of your time, and it is a heavy load. But at the same time, it is rewarding and the knowledge you gain will always stick with you. And later in life, with a nursing degree there are so many great opportunities available. Its worth all the hard work. I always say struggle now but you will be rewarded later. Gluck at the interview. You will do great if you believe in it.

Thank you so much for the advice and words of encouragement. I really do appreciate it!
