I applied at a nurse registry and within 5 days was hired at a hospital infusion center. Both registry and new employer know I have zero infusion/IV experience. It seems like they are really cool and ate willing to take train me. I keep asking myself ( not in a bad way). Why in the world would they hire me? I am not a new grad, I have three years experience in LTC. I would hire someone with experience! Any advice from infusion nurses so I can rock this new job?

Yes .... buy the best infusion book you can and read it. I would start with Plumers Principles and Practices of Intravenous Therapy since you need a big head start here! Read every IV policy and procedure they have. Purchase the INS standards of care and read it You will be held to these standards in your daily practice. You will need to start IVs,monitor for complications, perform CVC care and dsg changes, access ports and monitor for complications, administer chemotherapy, blood and blood products, antibiotics,IVIG,Biologics and all other types of drugs given for chronic conditions such as RA,CIDP,MS ,Crohns, HAE,blood disorders plus much more. You tend to see a lot more of the chronics in infusion so you get to know the drug treatments not often seen in the hospital setting.
