New job....new pregnancy

Hey everyone. Hoping to get some advice and opinions. I just started my new job in the NICU and I just found out that I'm pregnant. I didn't plan on sharing the news for a couple of months, but I am scared of what they might say when I do tell them since I did just start and will barely be finished with orientation by the time I have the baby.

Then I was wondering if I am going to be able to take care of those babies with a gigantic belly! And will I forget everything by the time I get back from maternity leave??

Thanks in advance!

First of all, CONGRATS!!! So exciting although stressful! You will get through it!

My advise is DEFINATELY to let them know. This kind of thing happens all the time, and they should be used to addressing it. Even if it might be a little akward for you to bring up, it will be more a benefit to you in the long run. There are many dx for our babies that pregnant women should not be around. In our NICU, we have just had a run of HSVII and we have about 6 nurses who are currently pregnant. It makes assignment making difficult, but it is in your best interest in the long run. Also, think of how you will feel when you have to bring it up later, and mention that you are pretty far along. They will appreciate as much notice as you can give them. That is my opinion! Hope it helps!!

Congratulations!! That's so exciting! :)

I agree with the above poster in that you should just go ahead and tell them now. I assume you have like 3 months of orientation? So then you'll have a few months on your own before you go on maternity leave, right?

There was a girl that was on orientation the same time I was, that had just found out she was pregnant when we started. She was on her own for a bit then went and had her baby. She was fine, you'll be fine too!

I hadn't really thought about how that would look if i waited to tell them and then I'd be due in a couple of months!

Thanks for the advice...I will be letting them know in the next week!
