Hello everyone, I wanted to start a thread to keep each other updated. I know it might be too soon, but has anyone heard anything yet? NJCU is my first option, and I can't wait to hear if was granted admission or not.

I'm glad I followed your advice! I called the office 2 days ago and found out they never got my HESI score! So my application was not even being reviewed. I sent everything right away and just got an email!! I'm so happy! See you guys soon 🙏🏾💃🏾
Amen!! I got accepted too!! I was so nervous since it was the only school that I applied to, but God really made a way. Praise the Lord! Excited to meet you my friend 🙂

Hi Everyone,
I'm a current nursing student in this program. I feel a responsibility to share what has been happening... I do not want to discourage anyone who doesn't have other options, but I want to make sure you're fully informed before enrolling.
This program has some serious issues, many of which have gotten worse.
1. NJCU is in the middle of a major financial crisis which many believe stems from years of mismanagement. The state is forcing a merger with another university to prevent closure (most likely Kean University). This process has already begun. Not sure how this will affect tuition rates in the future.
2. From what I understand a lot of staff were laid off and entire programs were cut. The nursing department has almost entirely turned over. Most of the leadership and staff are new and seem to be figuring out things as they go, in my opinion, not very successfully.
3. There are only two professors left who are truly great and one of them has told us they're likely leaving after this year. Look up "Nettingham" on RateMyProfessor to see what other students have shared.
4. Clinical Placement Issues: We have lower priority for clinical sites compared to other schools in the area. Some of my classmates had to commute over three hours from NYC using public transit to Long Branch for a 7am clinical. The school didn't try to assign clinical sites based on where students lived and refused to consider switches even when it made sense (they're students who actually live near Longbranch but they were assigned a Jersey City location for clinical and NYC students were assigned Long Branch).. Some clinicals are also scheduled on weekends...
5. Student concerns are routinely ignored. Problematic faculty behavior is allowed to continue unchecked, no matter how many students speak up.
6. When I was applying, I asked about retention rates and I feel like I was misled. I saw several very capable and motivated students in our class that didn't make it past the first semester. I feel like they weren't given a chance to succeed.
7. Lastly, the school is now requiring that classes in our program be given all in person, Monday through Friday going forward.
I don't want to be negative but just don't want you all to be blindsided like we were. You deserve to know how the program is run.
If NJCU is your only option, I completely understand! This school can make you nurse. I just want you to go in with open eyes. And if you end up here, I'm happy to help you navigate this program and offer whatever support I can. If you want to see some of the syllabus let me know. You don't have to figure out everything alone.

Hi, is there any way I can get in touch with you, this concerns me greatly. Thank you for letting us know.

Dear Lew,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this and looking out for us incoming students. It sounds like you and your cohort have been going through a lot of unexpected and drastic changes, and I can only imagine how discouraging that must feel while trying to stay focused on this demanding program. I'll admit I do feel a little discouraged, but I do hope our future cohort will be able to complete this program together since this program may be the only option at the moment for some of us. I'm just grateful you gave us a heads-up before we had to experience these problems first-hand. If you're open to it, I would love to take you up on your offer to look at the syllabus and maybe ask a few follow-up questions later on. And truly, thank you again for being willing to help others navigate this journey — it really speaks to the kind of nurse you're becoming.

Hi Lew! Thank you so so much for sharing your experience and the issues the school is facing right now. I saw in the news information about the merger but didn't think that would affect the programs this much 😞 this is very discouraging and sad because NJCU is my only option and I'm so excited to start and become a nurse. I looked up the name of that professor and reading the comments made so mad! I can't believe a person like is still teaching, especially in such rigorous program 😞 if you can share tips on how to pass this class or assignments, it would greatly appreciate it.
please share the syllabus and anything else you think might help us.
It is very kind of you to think of us and give us a heads up! God bless your heart! Best of luck for you and your classmates!!
It's not great ! I've been so busy but will try to come back and help answer questions when I get the chance. Here is a link to a Google drive with the syllabus for the first two semesters. Let me know if the link doesn't work: https://drive.Google.com/drive/folders/1UJSU9o83a0JtXN9tbWWuGyGFtikpYTi2?usp=sharing
