1. False. Medicare pays a flat fee per episode based on the patient's HIPPS code which is determined using the OASIS data collection, projected number of therapy visits, episode timing, and supply utilization. It is up to the agency to determine how to spend the episode payment. No agency can stay afloat proving 8 hours of daily care to a patient.
2. False. The initial assesment visit to determine eligibilty for the Medicare home health benefit can only be done by an RN, PT, or ST. If nursing needs are apparent on the initial referral, the initial assessment must be done by an RN.
3. True. All visit times must be documented accurately with the length of time the clinician spends with the patient.
4. Not necessarily, although it is best practice. Each visit must contain a task that requires the skill of a licensed professional. It can be a highly-skilled assessment that requires the skill of an RN, direct skilled care such as wound care or IV therapy, or patient/caregiver education. However, as nurses, we generally do provide a great deal of patient education, even when we don't recognize it as such.
Now, instead of looking to a discussion board for your information, I suggest that you immediately begin reading the CMS website for guidance. In this business, you will find many people who profess to know what they're talking about, including in this forum. How will you know what is true and what is not? Always go to the source for your info. Go to CMS.gov, click Medicare, then home health PPS. Read everything you can. Get in touch with your state's home care association and familiarize yourself with the rules and regs for your state. Find out who your fiscal intermediary is and see if they have Local Coverage Details published (Palmetto does). Attend an OASIS training session with someone who is a COS-C and qualified to teach the content. Home health care is more than just doing a visit and getting paid.
Thank you sooo much. I really appreciate it

Is this a preemployment exam? It sounds like it. Other wise why the T/F.
