New Graduate Nurse Looking for a Job in Dallas or Austin

I am a new graduate nurse who just graduated from The University of Alabama. I'm coming back home to Texas and I am on a job hunt for a job some where in Dallas or Austin. I am looking for something in an Intensive Care Unit for critical care experience, but at this point I'm also looking for something in the Cardiac Cath lab or even something at a non-hospital location. I know some places such as oral surgeons, or private practices have RN's and i'm wondering if any of them out there will hire a new, dedicated RN. I really would love some advice or help on this situation. Please, please. Thanks all.

Sorry its pretty hard for a new graduate to get hired in ICU, CCU, PCU, or cath lab in DFW with no experience. Don't get discourage if you don't get calls back just keep applying. The new grad internships/ residencies are pure battle. But I think Parkland always have openings.

I'm a new grad in Houston. I know its about 4 hours away from Dallas, but you can try Triumph Healthcare. That's the only place I found hiring new grads, and they still are. Look it up. Don't know if there's one up there.

Just remember, you're a new grad!! Don't hold out for an ICU job or a cath lab job, most employers want experience. You need to learn your skills, judgements, and critical thinking. I recommend trying to find a progressive care unit or step down/tele to start with. Develop a foundation in time management, prioritization, interventions, and knowing how to talk to a doctor. Before taking care of an ICU patient you need to be proficient in telemetry, phlebotomy, art sticks, codes/rrt's etc. so you are not a deer in headlights the first time a patient goes south. You'll see and learn TONS on one of those units. Please don't hold out for ICU, I'd hate to see all that knowledge you gained start to slip away waiting.

Specializes in Geriatric Nursing.

I know! I'm beginning to see that I may have to Try and do step down or something similar like med surg before I can cross train into critical care. Either that or work at a non-hospital. I'm really wanting to work in the Dallas or fort worth area though bc of family. The only hospitals i saw with a graduate program are Baylor and childrens. If any others are hiring I really don't know about them. Any one have suggestions on DFW?

I am also a new graduate nurse looking for a job in Dallas. I've been looking for 2 months and still do not have a job. Ive applied to almost all hospitals in the area and sent out atleast 75 resumes and I have gotten 1 interview thus far. Ive applied to Parklands resident programs, and have never heard anything back from them. I called the nurse recruiter at Parkland and they said there was nothing else I could do if I applied online, I could just wait to see if they would contact me.

I also applied at UT Southwestern Medical Center-- they told me that they only hire people on certain months according to the month they graduated in.. For example, I graduated in Dec, 2009 therefore they will only accept December Graduates in January, so I am not able to be considered for any position until January.

Most hospitals told me that I didnt recieve the job I applied for because of not meeting the minimum experience requirements (6 months-1 year)

Its been frustrating trying to find a nursing job without any experience in the Dallas area. Best of luck with your job search:)
