New Grads and Prescott Az VA?

Published

Hello everyone,

I would like to work at the VA in Prescott when I graduate in May 2010. I am interested in talking with someone that is working there now. It would be a relocation from NH and a whole new world for us. I am planning a trip there this summer and wanted some advice on how/what/where, things to investigate to help me in making this big decision. Is the VA in Prescott hiring new RN's now and how is the hiring climate there? Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone. I'm new to the board. Been lurking for months. I'm a new grad RN who graduated in May and took my NCLEX in June.

I too applied at the Prescott VA and recieved the "Thanks but no thanks" letter. They stated that they are only accepting RN's with 1 year or more experience. I have applied for no less than 200 positions nationwide and have received roughly 100 - 125 "Thanks but no thanks" letters. I have applied for every type of RN position I could think of. Hospitals, LTC, Home Health, Hospice, Corrections, etc.

The only thing I was able to come up with is some Seasonal work giving flu shots once the season begins.

I actually even saw a new grad position in San Diego, but they wanted the new grad to be a sitter for $11/hr !

This is not what I signed on for. I didn't work my butt off for 5 years to become less employable than I was before I had an RN! I sure hope things change soon. I know that there are many others who have been looking for work for a much longer time than I have. And to those, my heart and prayers go out to you.

Hang in there! I applied to over 50 positions on the West coast and TX and had few bites - they all seemed to be hiring local grads or you were competing with 500 other applicants. I panicked after not having a job by graduation and ended up applying to places in the south --finally started applying to places like OK, KY, and AR and got call backs--- ended up in Tulsa on a great unit-- I more than likely WILL NOT stay in this part of the country but at least I am getting my 2 years experience in floor nursing. There are lots of jobs in Tulsa and OKC for new grads call the nurse recruiters to see when they're next round of hires are. and they are hiring lots of people from out of state. It's a job! and they pay moving expenses
