Just graduated from nursing school and going to be starting at a Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital in Texas very soon. That being said, to all you seasoned VA nurses of Allnurses... what do I need to know about working at the VA? Tips? Things that you wish someone told you when you started? Tips for transferring to another VA Hospital elsewhere in the future?

Hello I know this has been posted 2 yrs ago. I have a quesyion. Im a new grad too and still in the process onbiarding.

Dis they hire you to their rnttp program? May I ask what level did they onboard you ? Like nurse 1 step 3 or 4 or 5?  Thank you for your answer..

Hello,

I applied to the VA PB RNR Summer program 2024 in Houston. Does it take long to hear back if you qualify for an interview? All I had todo was email all my docs , I got confirmation that forms were received, but thats it. It's been 3 weeks

Hi there. The VA does take a while since they're taking a look at many applicants (typically 200-250). If selected they will email you about a time slot for interviews. You could be waiting 1- 1 1/2 months later for selection. If you are a selected applicant, the onboarding will also take a few months too.

I hope that helps. It is a great program to be in.
