New Grad RN - Neuro ICU or CTICU?

Published

Hi all!

I am a new grad RN and I’ve been struggling to figure out what unit would be the best fit for me in terms of difficulty and long term goals.

This week, I had interviews with both the Neuro ICU and Cardio Thoracic ICU at a Level I Trauma Center and I want to be a little more informed about both prior to facing a decision (if I get any job offer at all lol).

I have a prior degree in Neuroscience so I’ve always been interested in the brain. I even did my practicum on this same Neuro ICU unit so I am familiar with the workings of this unit and loved the culture there. However, I do want to pursue my CRNA in the future and I feel like the CTICU will present me with better learning opportunities, especially in hemodynamics and medical devices. As a neuroscience kind of person, the heart has always been very daunting to me but I think that it may be a good challenge for my personal growth in the long run.

I am torn between the two units and any advice or input is appreciated, thanks!
