New grad RN Behavioral Health interviews

Published

Hi, I'm new here. I've been an STNA/NA for a ltitle over 4 years. I'm very much interested in mental health nursing. I recently interviewed for a behavioral health/addiction rehab facility. They actually extended an offer to me today as an aide to RN positon post nclex. Basically I'd work as an aide until passing nclex. I thought that sounded great.

Today I also had a phone interview at a local hospital for a behavioral medicine position. This is a teaching hospital. Now I have an in person interview scheduled.

My issue is, the hiring manager said that the aide training would begin in mid-February but my mind slipped because I should be taking nclex by then. Should I call back and clarify this? They offered me an aide to RN position and I'm confused to why they would offer me that even though during the interview I told them our program director said we could expect to take nclex in mid February. Unless it also slipped their mind? Also, they told me aide salary but not RN. Is that normal, and is it common to be offered an aide to rn position? If I do get offered the position at the other facility, I don't know how I will choose. I'm just afraid that if I accept the aide to RN job that if I take nclex before aide training that there won't be an rn position available.

I'm sorry I'm just very stressed and confused. Thank you. Lol but so glad to be done with nursing school! :)

Is the freestanding psych/rehab facility a private-for-profit organization? Totally apart from any of the considerations about the specific jobs you mention, my inclination would be to go with the teaching hospital position (if they end up offering it to you), especially if the other facility is private-for-profit.

Best wishes for your journey!

Thank you. :) it's a private non-profit.
