New Grad program with pregnant

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi, I am a newly licensed RN and I have recently been invited to interview for Oncology and Med /surg as a new grad in what they call the StaRN program. I have been trying to start my career in the hospital since I passed my boards in November of 2019. However, now that the opportunity has presented itself I am unsure what to do because I am 17 weeks pregnant. The program is set to start in July and I am due in December. I notified HR when they reached out to ask if I was still interested about my pregnancy and despite that they would still like to interview me for a position. My question is if this is a good idea or if I should wait until after I deliver to try again. If I did wait though I will be past my 1st year of nursing and will no longer qualify for a new grad program. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated. Thank you!

@nw17

I also did an in person interview. The. Within the week I got the email with the offer. Best of luck! I heard med surge is its own beast. A lot higher of a pt ratio (5 or 6) vs ICU. But then again they are way low acuity. Also be mentally prepared to encounter Covid. It’s running ramped at our hospital.

@Navelyn I did my on demand interview Friday so hopefully I hear about an in person interview sometime next week!

I accepted a job offer at another hospital and have to start within the next week or two. It is getting down to the wire for me! I will keep you posted. Thank you for your help!
