New Grad Options

Published

Hoping you guys can help! I'm scheduled to take my NCLEX next month. My situation is a bit wonky. My husband moved to this city for a new job a few months ahead of me, I stayed behind with our daughter to finish school. This job of his was supposed be a certain schedule with the option of going on shift work for the extra pay. Well now they had a bunch of retirements and since he's the new guy he's getting sent to shift work. Which is a weekly rotation, 6 days week. Since we're in a new city we don't have family or friend support for help with my daughter (7y/o).

I know finding a nanny is an option, it's a last resort. But are there other options for new grads that don't require 12 hr shifts and overnights? Are there any options for part-time as a new grad? I want to learn, I'm not trying to be lazy, it's just a weird situation. Home health seems like a possibility but I've also heard that it's not ideal for new grads. Texas doesn't allow RNs to work independently without a few years experience so school nursing is out. What am I missing? Thank you all in advance.

I would recommend talking with a recruiter for the health systems in your area. They will be able to give you an idea of what shifts they are hiring for. Have you thought about outpatient? Those jobs are generally 8-5, no nights or weekends. Best of luck to you!

I think, the best option is outpatient ambulatory. Usually, 8 to 9 hours shift, always Day shift, no weekends.
