New grad nurse transfering license to California.

Published

hi all, hope you all have great holidays!!

:)

this is my first time posting on this site, just made my new account but i have been following this site, articles for quite a bit now; i have found it a great source and help for new nurses with so many questions. looking forward to build a healthy career ahead with the help of my "senior" nurses here, who can help me become a good nurse!!:nurse:

so i graduated in may from north carolina univ with a bsn degree, and passed my nclex in july and got licensed in north carolina.

i actively started looking for a job in north carolina initially, but no luck! then i opened up my boundaries and started looking in california as i have my family there so it became my first choice after north carolina.

however i did get some calls from the hospitals in california, but they asked me to get my license changed to california first and then reapply for job there. so, after some hesitation about whether i should get my rn license changed to california or not. finally i started the license endorsement process in the first week of november and sent everything out. i also applied for the temporary license as it gets issued faster, in 4-6 weeks. i know that a lot of hospitals in hiring new nurses in december. but i haven't gotten my california license yet. i had sent all my paperwork in mail. i don't know whats taking it so long, it has been over 6 weeks now. i am trying to keep patience, but i can't, as i have been sitting home for about 6 months. i had not expected this for me at all. it feels like i am just wasting my time and soon my license be expired too, i am forgetting nursing content and losing confidence. i will have to change my career to something else, go back to college for another degree ? thats not a pleasant feeling at all.

if anyone who is going through or been through a similar situation, i would really appreciate any suggestions you can give me. thanks!!

happy holidays again to you all!

California can take some time. I am a military wife (orginally from California) and received my nursing license in south carolina (when we were stationed there.) We moved back to california and it took almost 2 and half months altogether to get my california license. Meanwhile I had to renew my south carolina license. Unfortunally, its a waiting game. If its past the recommended time frame, call the BON. And meanwhile review material. It will come before you know it =)

Happy Holidays!!

California's BRN is notoriously slow. They do pretty much everything through regular mail and on paper instead of online like just about every other state. Plus I think they have like one office in Sacramento doing all the paperwork for the entire state. Ridiculous! If it's past the 6 weeks they promised you can always give them a call and have them check that they even have your paperwork, but that's about all they do. Good luck with everything!

is North Carolina not a new grad friendly state?
