Hello everyone,
My name is Cheryl and I am an addict. I have been battling an opiate addiction for the past 5 1/2 yrs thinking (of course) I could "control" it (I think you know what im talking about.) Obviously my way didnt work and I knew I needed help. I received my RN license in Aug 2008 and started work immediately w/ my employer whom I was previously working for as a tech (for a year). My obsession was still in full force and I began diverting a month later. I was employed for a total of 5 months when I finally turned myself in...I was SCREAMING for help. The next day I went to a rehab for impaired professionals where I found out so much about myself that I had never known or had forgotten. 5 wks later I had a conference call with my employer who notified me that I was terminated. I know now that there is a plan for me, I just am not aware of it yet. So my question is...What are the job possibilities for a new grad w/ minimal experience AND in recovery. It seems that everyone is looking for some experience, which I am lacking. Help or suggestions? Thanks family.

Cheryl,
There are numerous employers who are "recovery friendly". The trick is finding them. One area where you may be able to find employment is pharmaceutical research. I know...it sounds almost like an oxymoron. The are study monitors who make sure research sites are following FDA protocols and documentation. They love hiring nurses because of the level of knowledge you bring as a result of your education. My daughter is a research monitor (I think the initials are CRA, but I can't remember what it stands for...too many fried brain cells combined with age!). She has a business degree. I'm always getting phone calls regarding terminology or what a disease process involves, etc. Plus you won't have any access to mood altering substances. Just a thought.
Good luck and keep us posted!
